Melissa releases her debut novel with a Cover Reveal and EXCLUSIVE Pre-Order Merchandise!

The day has finally arrived! Honestly, I've been waiting for his day for a very long time, years even. If you've been following me on social media, you'll know that during lockdown I wrote a novel. Let me back up and tell you why.

It was the first day of the first UK lockdown after COVID-19 (Coronavirus) had caused havoc in countries from all parts of the globe. I was on my way home from work, due to be working from home going forward, when I received a call from my foster carer. I had been in care for eleven years and was worried when he said that something had happened with social services and that I needed to get home as fast as possible. I sat on the train nervously and tried not to think about the situation at hand. You see, in foster care you never know what will happen. One day you could be at school, or with your family and friends, having a blast of the time, and then next you could be moved out of your care home with no plan, no money and no support. Unfortunately, that is what happened to me.

I walked through the door and within the first 5 minutes I was told that I had to leave my home that day, within the next few hours even. As you can imagine, I was traumatised. If it weren't for my boyfriend and his family who kindly suggested I stay with them for the time being, I truly don't know where I'd be, most likely on the streets. My worst fears came true. Naturally, I became depressed. I mean, who wouldn't when that happens to you? Waking up to the news, telling me that thousands of people had died from Coronavirus didn't help either. In times like this, I find writing to be the best therapy for me. I spent hours and hours of each day in my bedroom writing, sometimes even eating dinner late because I was so immersed in this new world and story I was creating.

Thus, Cloaked Shadows was born! Cloaked Shadows is a YA (Young Adult) Fantasy novel which revolves around a 20-year-old girl who discovers that she has magic. Here's the blurb:

Ikena Ralliday is plagued with nightmares of her father's brutal death at the hands of a monstrous Sinturi, those abominations which feast on humans to survive. They snatch children from their beds, infect animals with their darkness and serve one purpose only - to overrun Nevera and destroy the magical Cloaks.

When Ikena - a human - discovers that she herself is a magical, she should obey the law and report to the Cloaks. But that would mean never again seeing her home and all those she loves. She can hide her magic away, but it's becoming impossible to control. Besides, no matter how much she resists, Ikena is drawn more and more into the heart of the endless war between the Cloaks and the Sinturi.

It seems her fate is tied to Nevera's and darkness is always lurking.
