Inspiration for your next Book Cover

You’ve written your novel and you’re finally coming to the ‘piece it all together’ stage, what’s missing? A beautifully designed book cover! I’ve put together a list by genre with some great example, take a look below.


Romance books are infamous for their cheesy book covers and usually involved a couple, holding each other in a loving embrace, with cursive fonts and rose petals. Just type in ‘Romance book covers’ on google and you’ll see what I mean. Here are a few great examples.


Adventure book covers and known for being appealing and direct at attracting the public eye. These book covers need to hold a readers gaze and invite them to pick that book to read. Here are some great examples:


Fantasy book covers are my favourite, simply because you’ll never know what you’ll get. Anything can happen in a fantasy book and you need a cover to reflect this. Take a look at a few of my favourites:


Crime and Mystery books often bring a sense of vagueness to their covers, which works in their favour. These types of covers truly play on the ‘dangerous’ and ‘mysterious’ aspects that are to be expected and often leave you curious about what could entail from the story. Ive gathered some of my favourites:


Horror book covers play to their strengths and make a reader feel exactly what they want. Scared. A truly good horror book cover will leave a reader with the chills, which is what will draw them into choosing your book. Here are some ghoulish examples:


Sci-Fi books are instantly recognisable, they want the readers to know exactly what type of genre they belong to, so they can attract the Sci-Fi geeks. Here are a few that have created effective book covers:


Children’s book covers often involve lots of colour and illustrations, chosen to attract children and their parents. A children’s book cover needs to be playful as well as extremely eye-catching. Remember, you’ll be competing with millions of other brightly coloured children’s books out there. Here are a few that I find stand out:
